Continuing high level of tax delinquency and foreclosure. Continue to innovate in foreclosure prevention efforts.
Continuing the community and economic development activities of the Ingham County Land Bank Authority. Knowing the public and private leaders throughout the community and bringing tools to the table that deserve funding will sustain us.
Challenges to fund retiree health care and pension obligations. We are making great strides with our Health Care funding by slowly increasing contributions. County has tightly controlled employee cost through shared involvement with labor and management on health care and through very limited cost of living pay increases.
Continue serving the citizens to the best of my ability as I have for 15 years.
Tax foreclosure prevention and financial empowerment. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance through the Asset Independence Coalition; partnering with the Detroit Branch of the Chicago Federal Reserve on Money Smart Week; and partnerships with the Office of Financial Empowerment in Lansing, Cristo Rey Community Center and Capital Area Community Services are a few of the tool utilized to reach our community.
The two services I am most proud of is establishing the first County Treasures office in Lansing ever and the removal of an automated phone answering service. The public deserves high quality personal service and that is my goal each and every day.
By the nature of local government I do not think we provide services that are not vital. The State and Federal government lay down an unnecessary level of complexity that does nothing to help us deliver a service to out citizens. We need to focus our work on the benefits for the public and rethink the built up complexity.
Any cutback will reduce services to the citizens. We have to invest in our community and its people to stabilize and strengthen the vast middle class. Services that the wealthy can afford to provide to themselves must also be publicly provided to those that need them. Cutting back public services at the expense of the majority of our citizens is a false paradigm.
The complexity of program rules should be streamlined so staff can be deployed to areas that deliver services.
