I have had extensive experience in matters related to decision making at the City and Township level. I believe I am best qualified to deliver Township services and decision making because of that experience.
Yes. However I would support it reluctantly. We are already involved with a tax millage here in Eaton County to pay for road improvements. Any future tax increases should be shared by everyone, not just the property owners nor just through a gas tax. Everyone should pay through a sales tax increase. Even non drivers use the highways to get from place to place. Sales tax would be the most fair way as I see it.
Yes. I think local government at the City and Township level is much more accountable than other units of government and can often provide services at a more efficient and less costly method at a higher level of government. We need a part time legislature in Lansing and Washington.
A part time legislature in Lansing and Washington DC would be a starting point.
Road Maintenance-We are addressing that through the County Road Millage. Police & Fire Services-Both of which are being adequately supported through current interlocal agreements and property taxes Future Growth- Careful Planning for anticipated housing and commercial needs has to be looked at regularly
No. City and Township governments have a proven record of delivering many services at less cost than the County can. Case in point is running local elections and tax collection as well as assessing duties and some zoning duties. I think the Township Boards & City Councils are much more responsive to residents concerns than County government can be in many instances.
I am not a City resident so I will decline to list what I think essential.
I think we operate a sound financial township. We have declared a property tax holiday twice in the last five years here in Eaton Township because we didn't need to take the property owners money to provide our township services. All services are necessary or we would look at defunding them if we needed to.
