I am a former military officer, registered nurse, healthcare executive, presenter, consultant and advocate for quality healthcare. I have a remarkable body of work extending from for-profit and non-profit health systems to academic in a variety of geographic locations as well as am well known throughout the healthcare industry for my expertise with accreditation and regulatory agencies. My experience includes clinical operations, nursing, education, quality assurance, quality improvement, risk reduction, infection prevention and control, patient safety, research, medical staff services, and utilization management.

Improving the county's transportation infrastructure (safe roads, bike lanes, side walks, and transit system), protecting the water (drinking and recreational), and quality healthcare for the community and veterans.
If elected as Oakland County Commissioner for District 1, I would:
1. Work to understand the concerns of the citizens, available data related to issues, allocated funding and rationale.
2. Build key patnerships and collaborations.
3. Establish and implement a written quality control and/or improvement plan.
4. Provide updates to the citizens and local leadership on status of outcomes.
Yes I do because a regional transit system will have a positive impact on:
1. Family's socioeconomic status.
2. Public health and welfare.
3. Community member's quality of life.

1. Increase funding being that MI is ranked in the bottom 7 states in per capita road funding at the same time MI residents pay a fuel tax that is currently the 16th highest in United States.
2. Safe roads, bike lanes, and sidewalks throughout communities.

I believe that body cameras should be mandatory for the safety of the officer as well as the community. In addition, there should be quality control measures implemented that includes random monitoring of a percentage of all film in order to:
1. Ensure compliance of standard operation procedures.
2. Identify improvement opportunies based on patterns and trends.
3. Facilitate and support the development of training programs and materials.
Yes. Decriminalizing marijuana will have a positive impact on:
1. Economic status throughout communities.
2. Quality of life of individuals and family members.
3. Health and public welfare.
Yes. The county has a "Gun Safety Committee" and has provided locks for guns. If elected, I will support gun violence data collection for analysis which will allow the county to develop and implement strategic policies and procedures to support reduction efforts.
Being that MI was recently ranked at 28 out of 36 (8th from the bottom) states evaluated for high school education, I believe our education system is in crisis status and therefore the top priorities should be:
1. Appropriate allocation of funding and resources for all public schools.
2. Utilize best practices known throughout U.S. as well as internationally.
3. Ensuring that minimum professional credentials and qualifications are established and mandated for all educators pre-K through 12.
4. Ensuring annual continuing education and training requirements based on data analysis, trends, patterns, and outcomes.

Being that Oakland County is mostly dependent on the state of MI to distribute appropriate funding for infrastructure development and maintenance, our first priority is to support state level candidates that understand the urgency and who will fight to keep infrastructure which includes transportation infrastructure as a top priority. According to America Society of Civil Engineers (2013), MI has an overall infrastructure report card grade of a "D."
At the county level, if elected, I will work to obtain sufficient infrastructure funding.
The role of the county is to build an Oakland county economy that works for all by:
1. Investing in our people (strengthen family economics, better schools, & regional transit system).
2. Protecting our most vulnerable citizens (protect our water, improve public health which includes mental health and substance abuse, as well as human right policies and procedures).
3. Supporting our local businesses with innovation.
As a first time candidate, I am not positioned to provide a valid assessment. However, if elected, I will complete an evaluation of county services to determine which, if any services have opportunities for improvement. The overall goal will be to ensure that county services are efficient and productive.

I will challenge the status quo as it relates to our transportation infrastructure as the "forgotten priority" (8th worst road system in the nation) by asking and analyzing:
1. Why is it that current gas and diesel sales taxes (MI is one of a few states to have a sales tax in addition to the gas tax) do not go towards transportation infrastructure?
2. What is the rationale for the current distribution of state funding (39.1%) to counties, cities, and villages for road development/maintenance (county has 75% or 90,162 miles; cities and villages has
17% or 20,914 miles)?
I believe that we should start by remembering and learning from our nation's history regarding the migration of immigrants to our country which has made us the richest and most powerful nation in the world. The Statue of Liberty's famous quote is "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." These refugees are running from brutal and injust conditions. Our focus should be on:
1. Updating our immigration policies to include improving our security screening processes.
2. Staying true to our core values and culture in spite of non-traditional threats.
3. Preventing domestic terrorist activities.
If elected, I will support and fight for policies that strengthen family economic status such as:
1. Earned paid sick days and paid leave.
2. Increase the minimum wage.
3. Invest in job training.
4. Free community college for Oakland County residents.
5. Require "claw backs" for corporate tax subsidies that under deliver on jobs promised.
6. Create countywide Children Savings Accounts (CSAs).
7. End homelessness for Oakland County veterans.
Although Oakland County's workforce is among the best, we must continuously invest in our employees to sustain and improve our high service standards. Workforce development is a crucial component of community economic development. Therefore, I will utilize data analysis to identify opportunities for improvement based on trends and patterns with an overall goal of limited waste of resources. In addition, I will push for implementation of best practices known throughout each service industries by:
1. Attracting top talent.
2. Filling leadership gaps.
3. Training employees in vital new skills.

The most pressing problems are rising operating costs, road infrastructure issues, regional initiatives that negatively impact Oakland County and effectively managing the Great Lakes Water Authority to ensure access to water in an effective and efficient manner.
At this time I am still researching the issue. I believe it is important to better connect the city to the suburbs but I need to ensure there is an correlation between the cost to the taxpayers of Oakland County and they benefit that they would receive. Today I am not certain this correlation exists.
I believe the expansion of I-75 is crucial as well as a continuous effort to connect the various independent transportation entities that exist today (SMART, DDOT).
I believe that law enforcement should have every tool possible to attack crime and to ensure that it is done properly. I support body cameras if the Sheriff believes that is what is needed to protect the deputies and reduce crime.
I do not support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
I believe the County and the Board of Commissioners have take good steps to prevent gun violence (BOC gun lock program) but there is still more work to do. It is our right to bear arms and I support gun ownership. However, we need to ensure that guns to not create unnecessary violence.
The Board of Commissioner by law does not have a primary role in education. That primary responsibility lies with the Intermediate school district in Oakland County. However, the Board of Commissioners has partnered with the ISD to help drive and fund important programs such as Anti-bullying training and programs with third party groups like Defeat the Label. We need to ensure our children are getting a quality education in a safe environment that is conducive to learning.
Oakland county is addressing is aging infrastructure by allocating budget dollars every year to invest in our buildings and assets. The Board of Commissioners has also partnered with The Road Commission for Oakland County to put over $5 million into our roads (although the County does not by law have the primary responsibility for the road. This responsibility and funding lies with the Road Commission for Oakland County).
The County by law does not a primary role in assisting financially struggling cities. However, we have always made resources available to work with communities that are struggling and to assess all avenues possible that may assist a given city without hurting the remaining taxpayers of the County.
I believe there needs to be more focus of the Community Mental Health services. While Oakland County CMH does a good job, I believe there are more efficiencies and collaboration that can be implemented. Clearly defining CMH services and roles, reducing the number of vendors and aligning with partners who can scale will allow more money to be available for the constituents who need these services.
The biggest concerns are being able to maintain quality services while we experience rising costs (Great Lakes Water Authority) and have a limited ability to increase revenue.
I do not support being a open state for refugees without greater screening process.
I will continue to ensure that the necessary County services remain available. I am also working to engage non-profits, such as Oakland Hope, to assist in addressing these needs.
I will continue to listen to business owners in regards to the skills and resources that are needed to run and grow their businesses. Then I will partner with Oakland Schools and Colleges in Oakland County to ensure these resources are available.
I will support the party's candidate for president and will attend campaign events if possible.
