I am running for school board because I am passionate about education and I want to serve the Williamston community. I have learned a lot while serving for the past 20 months and have developed a greater appreciation for and understanding of the work we do on the board.
Making sure we provide opportunities for all kids is my top priority. I think WCS is already attentive to this issue, but I believe we can always do more. Making sure our community is both informed and engaged is also a challenge. Education is extremely important to our kids as they prepare for future success. Our students will need help at home if they are going to excel when they leave leave our schools. Financial strain and limited funding continue to be a challenge as we try to provide quality educational opportunities for kids and pay our staff at levels that are commensurate with their value and expertise.
I will prioritize the preservation of strong early elementary programming should cuts be necessary. Budgets cuts require the collaboration and input of administration, staff, and collective bargaining units, so I am not willing to propose hypothetical sacrifices.
Closing a building is not an issue that Williamston will need to address.
Overall, I am more than satisfied with the academic achievement of our students and the work accomplished by our staff. I believe Williamston Community Schools are a place where kids can learn, grow, and prepare themselves for the future. With that understood, I feel like our entire district is always looking for ways we can better serve the needs of our kids.
The passage of the sinking fund has enabled us to provide safe facilities for our students and staff. I believe our kids enter buildings that are safe every day. While I also believe facilities in many cases could be improved or modernized, I think we really need to maintain our focus on academic programming. Technology may allow us to use facilities in ways we have not been able to in the past.
Yes. I believe we are lucky to have our superintendent. She is smart, caring, thoughtful, and always puts the best interest of Williamston kids first. While she relies on her experience, she is unafraid of change and continues to lead, adapt, and provide vision for our district.
Yes.
