Water Quality: our water needs to be tested throughout Oakland county in schools and daycares. We need to know the water is safe to drink and that the pipes that hold it are safe. This can happen through county wide testing of water and water infrastructure.
Infrastructure: we have an aging water and sewage system. We can start with county wide inspections and testing.
Roads: an obvious ongoing issue in Michigan and particular parts of Oakland County are our deteriorating roads. Starting with looking at other states or countries with similar weather patterns and seeing what has worked for them would be a great start. Testing the materials...are we using the best?
I absolutely support a regional transit system. I think it needs to be far reaching, into the northern parts of Oakland county as well as busier hubs. Without an extensive transit system many jobs and also health care can be out of reach for some people. In some areas there are limited grocery stores, community members need to be able to have healthy options not just those at a local convenience store.
Supporting the RTA plan and improving all forms of transportation. The county and region need to be looking at biking and walking routes as well as fixing our roads. Looking at renewable energy sources along the way to implement changing transportation and environmental needs.
While the majority of law enforcement officers are following proper procedure and the law, it's alarmingly clear with in the past couple years that others are not. Wearing body cameras should be mandatory, as well as making officers responsible for wearing the cameras correctly and without the ability for them to "fall off".
I do support the legalization of recreational marijuana. With proper regulation and taxation it can be a positive for the region. Fewer people in our jails and prisons over drug possession and dealing. States with recreational drug use have shown a drop in opioid and other drug use.
The county has a Gun Safety committee. Recently they teamed with the sheriff's department to give free gun locks. I believe working together with mental health officials and law enforcement we can do more.
The county needs to look at equality in education. How big are classes? Do students and teachers have what they need to be in class, successfully, everyday?
Implementing anti bullying programs across the board. The county should continue to work towards accessible and affordable early education for all children.
We need to get creative. Perhaps testing of current materials used, testing of new materials. We need to push the states to provide funding.
The county needs to be sure all of it's citizens know what financial help is available. Assisting citizens in finding affordable renewable energy options will help with utility costs, often families go without heat or electricity. Finding ways to have sustainable, affordable renewable energy can help.
The health department.
The public should have availability to accurate and true medical information, not that which skewed by a political agenda. An example would be emergency contraception, women should have access based on need; abortion literature and counseling should be available as well.
With a budget surplus available at the county level we should see outreach to low income families. Guidance for this families in finding financial and education resources. If we can get low income family on the upward slope we can increase revenue for businesses.
If the refugee vetting system is updated I believe we should definitely help refugees settle in Michigan and in Oakland county. Immigrants are what we, as a country, are founded on. New people, new cultures all equal a better economy and community.
Low income residents need access to affordable, reachable healthcare, transportation and education. I would like to have a way to let residents know where free clinics are, and also to have a way to get there if they do not have their own transportation.
Working on getting a working accessible transit system throughout Oakland county, including the northern parts is very important in low income residents gaining access to jobs, healthcare and education.
Tapping into new industries will help improve the county's workforce development efforts. We also need to look into what the public high school technical schools are teaching and what needs to be updated. This is a great source for workforce development.
If given the opportunity to appear with the Democratic nominee it would be my honor and pleasure. I will support the Democratic nominee.
I have not.
I have not.

1. Budget. We must continue to maintain Oakland County’s financial position, AAA bond rating, and a balanced budget!
2. Jobs. We must continue to bring employers to Oakland County communities and the region. The situation has improved and OC is now outpacing the state and national averages. However we must continue to work hard to find alternatives and inventive ways to continue to entice employers and emplyees in to the area. Training in skilled trades needs to be part of the focus.
3. GLWA. The formation of GLWA due to the Detroit bankruptcy will affect all of us in some way. We must ensure that an overdue burden is not put on the OC taxpayers from years of neglect of the system.
I cannot support based on the latest plan. The current plan does not support my district, as it only comes as far north as Pontiac and Troy. Residents in my district would still have to drive to a location for any type of service via the RTA. My district also has its own local transportation system, NOTA, that supports all those in need in our Community. Multiple municipalities in my district have already issued resolutions against the RTA ballot proposal. Oakland County in general is looking at the value for the contibution osf our tax payers.
We must all remember that the Detroit area is still the auto capital of the world, so we must not forget about the automobile. Our transportation priorities should be all encompassing for all that are contributing. For automobiles we must continue to improve and maintain our infrastructure, along with planning for the future technologies of autonomous vehicles. We should also improve our busing and rail systems in the entire region, with a focus on improving cost and transportation times for its users. Autonomous vehicle technology could also have an effect on the busing system in the region.
Mixed. The purchasing of camera's is the simple part. Many more aspects come into play, such as data storage size and duration, along with individual privacy. At this juncture I would have to say we need to spend more time studying the benefits as most police cruisers have dash mounted camera's that we can learn from. How much more will we learn from adding body camera's?
No. However, I do support the legalization of marijuana through a prescription drug store under the guidance of a doctor.
We at OC are continually working towards ways to improve. The OC Board Commissioner created a study group on Gunn Violence after Sandy Hook and interviewed many professionals across a wide spectrum. This year, we held our 3rd annual gun safety day on June 10th and recognized June as safety month. In coordination with over 30 local law enforcement agencies and tne NSSF we have given away over 10,000 gun locks over this time frame. We have also developed four PSA's that have been played on many local cable services and some of the large affiliates in the Detroit area. The PSA's are on the use of gun locks, mental health, video games, and our newest one on the need and use of a gun safe.
The County's role has been and should continue to be in the area of skilled trades as this is becoming a lost art in the marketplace. As for K-12 the Counties role is very limited. The OC board of Commissioners have support and sponsored a few programs with the OC intermediate school district. The OC Board of Commissioners also holds an annual youth in government day for high school students to witness and interact within government officials.
For roads we must continue to support our tri-party program for roads. GLWA will have oversight for the water and sewage infrastructure which is aging. We must begin to look forward as infrastructure upgrades/improvements will be needed for the new autonomous driving sector that is currently under development.
Minimal. One way we are trying to support is through our tri-party road funding program which has been recently expanded with additional funds through a resolution I co-authored. We also recently expanded the program to included Cities and Villages, whereas in the past it was only for Townships.
Oakland County services are usually on the leading edge, however everything can always be improved. The staff at Oakland County does a great job of investigating alternatives and trying or pilot options to continually evaluate ways to improve.
OC does a fantastic job of managing and oversight of the budget. We have a 3 yr balanced budget with a 5 yr outlook, which allows us to circumvent any potential problems and surprises.
We have immigrations laws in place today that should be followed and enforced. I am not against anyone coming to our great country, but they need to follow the process currently in place.
Provide residents with information on opportunities within the County and the area through work force development. I am always willing to help those that are interested in improving themselves and/or their families.
Oakland County continually looks for ways to improve on workforce development programs, with programs such as Manufacturing day, promoting skill trades and providing information on potential education options.
I plan to supprt and participate as I can in events for my party's presidential nominee.
